Previously, on.... This is a really unique record. Experimental for sure, but really fucking heavy. And then the saxophone comes in and your mind gets blown. It's extreme, aggressive, but really creative. They use synths and textures in a way that's organic. Nicely done!

Jonathan Williams This is the type of band that I’ve always wanted to hear… Favorite track: The Purest Drug.

The Eye Is You This is just hard as fuck and is hands down the best use of a theremin in a heavy band ever! Killer unique riffage, great drumming and lots of noise driven surprises. Vocals are reminiscent of pissed off Barney meets a Full Metal Jacket drill Sargent...and I’m not talking the stupid purple dinosaur...great production for a live church recording!

about

BLK OPS was formed around 2014, after years of discussions coined around shared mutual interests and eventual determination, the core trio set forth to contrive something entirely new. Abrasive but cathartic by design, the group wanted to approach familiar subjects from a fresh angle, melding overwhelming noise elements with metal riffs to create firm tension and apparent sensory overload for their listeners, with the ultimate goal to be the author of a holistic experience thriving in both blunt hooks as well as fascinating experimentation, The Heroic Dose being an exact testament to the fact.

The album, recorded in an old church in East Austin that was converted into a studio a few years back, was written over a couple of years, with some of the songs initially being part of an album that was never released. All of the tracks were performed live during the long writing period, each having the appropriate time to marinate properly prior to recording them. Delony, a natural choice to engineer and mix the album due to prior connections to the band, used the unconventional space of a church and its acoustics to their benefit with lots of room mics and natural effects, in order to capture BLK OPS' aural being in as organic and resolute form possible. Underlining this, apart from some overdubs added later on, the entire basis of the album was recorded live.
